It's a Win, Win, Win!
"Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock."Matthew 7:24–25
The reason you started your business or decided to lead others was to take your skills and passion and turn them into a living. You wanted to work hard and reap the benefits. I get that.
Operating a business or being a leader is probably more difficult than you expected. The laundry list of "other" things you have to know and learn to operate successfully was never taught in school. It's literally learned "on the job."
Leadership Challenges
You face new challenges every day. From dealing with the government, taxes, EINs, S Corps, LLCs, vendors, customers, cash flow, the economy, and people, it's easy to feel like your head is swimming in mud.
When you come to the fork in the road, make the decision right now to take the high road. Learn and grow personally. Your leadership—and your satisfaction in life - will grow as a result.
Going down the low road will leave you feeling like you're always driving with a flat tire and a broken AC: stressed to the max and hopeless. Life is meant to be better than that.
What's the Solution?
Start with a changed perspective. As your business or leadership grows, it becomes less about the products and more about the people you work with. Leadership is the skill you need most to achieve future success.
It took me many years to realize that the main part of running a business has very little to do with the product I sell. It has everything to do with the people I lead and mentor.
As your business grows, the only way to make it great - and to live a balanced, enjoyable life - is to become a great leader.
Being a great leader does not mean you have to become a world-dominating corporate entity. Great leaders own both small businesses and large businesses.
What it does mean is that no matter the size of your business or the team you lead, is that you operate with integrity.
Don't wait to become the leader your people need. Grow your leadership now, and your team will have the foundation it needs to weather the storms that inevitably come. Invest in yourself, invest in your people, and you'll create something far greater than a successful company - you'll build a legacy of integrity, influence, and lives changed. That's a win for you, a win for your team, and a win for everyone your business serves.
If you want to read another great passage of scripture that says it better than I could ever do check out Mark 10:42-45 (NIV).
