Pumpkin Puree and Libby's

Posted by Ted Marris on

Libby's Pumpkin has pretty much been the only pumpkin I've used in most applications besides some fresh pumpkin at home. If you have tried different brands and compared it to them you would see that Libby's has a distinct "pumpkin" flavor. I first thought maybe their product had special ingredients so a few years ago I started to to research it and found pretty quickly that they actually grow a propietary pumpkin squash. This pumpkin provides the flavor we love, the color, and texture too for the product.

I encourage people to try out different brands since they may have a flavor profile you enjoy, or this year try breaking down some of your own squash and pumpkins and using them for your baking needs. Now remember all pumpkins are squash, but not all squash are pumpkin so keep that in mind when you are looking for certain flavor profiles. Also keep in mind that not all squash are the best for baking applications.

As always, I hope this helps you on your own personal culinary journey of deepening your knowledge and skills at home. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to me via email at chef@sweetandsavoryclassroom.com.
