The Key to consistent leadership
Christian Leadership
Christians are often looked to for leadership. This is because Christians have a leadership guide that is consistent, all knowing, and has an answer for every situation. God created this ultimate guide we call the Bible so we would have something to go by in all our times of need. For Christians the burden of leading others can be draining and no matter how hard we try it is inevitable we will get off track.
How do we get back on track?
How we get back on track is the million dollar question all leaders want answered. Continuing to stick to spiritual disciplines is a great help to stay on track. Spiritual disciplines also give you signs you are off track, and help you get back on track. There are many spiritual disciplines such as fasting, praying, reading the bible, fellowship, solitude etc but which one helps us be consistent as a Christian leader?
Fasting is the answer. Whether you agree or disagree is up to you but the spiritual discipline of fasting is a key component to consistent leadership.
What is fasting?
Simply put, fasting is denying the physical desire for something, usually food, for a period of time. Then you spend that time with God allowing him to satisfy you spiritually and physically. When you skip a meal you may get a headache. When you set a meal aside and spend that time with God, you get a heartache for the things more important than food. Great leadership requires you to look at things on a higher level than whats for dinner.
How do you fast for consistent leadership?
How do we do this? There are many ways, too many to list so we will keep it to the beginner level. Try setting aside one meal per week. Use the time you would spend preparing and eating that meal with God. It seems so simple because it truly is. The intimacy you will create with God is amazing. Again, just set aside the meal and open your Bible or go to your knees in prayer and spend that 20, 30, or 45 minutes with Him. Talk to Him, ask Him questions, yell at Him if you need to. God is the type of guy that no matter what you throw at Him, He can take it. When your stomach growls at you, ask God to fill it and you will be amazed what happens.
How does fasting help our leadership?
It breaks the strongholds attaching us to this world.
It opens up our sensitivity to God and His great Leadership.
It provides clarity to our ears to hear His advice.
When you spend time with God in His Word it becomes apparent that every leadership question and problem has an answer in the Bible. It’s all there in one book.
It doesn’t take much to loose sight of a purposeful direction. A busy weekend and you skip church, the kids bouncing off the wall and you neglect spending time reading Gods word. Then we replace time with God with busyness and bam your leadership direction has officially slipped. It happens to all of us. The difference between consistent leaders and the others is having spiritual disciplines that identify where you are and help you get back on track.
Every time your stomach growls, think about God and talk to Him. Fast to help you think about God more and this world less. Then you will have His outlook on leadership.
Challenge your leadership!
The challenge is now up to you. Can you do it? Fast one meal per week for the next month and email me if it doesn't radically change your life.
